An old Lebanese poet remembrance for his country (Translated)
Abu Madi was born in the village of Al-Muhaydithah, now part of Bikfaya, Lebanon, on May 15, 1890 to a Greek Orthodox Christian family. At the age of 11 he moved to Alexandria, Egypt where he worked with his uncle.

Land of stars I am here
Stare. Remember who am I?Have you seen at the distant past
a mischievous bad boy? Happily playing in your fields
like a low silent breeze. The possessions are his game
and things that are not acquired.He climbs up trees, not boredom
he feels and no weakness.And he returns in the branches to shape it
swords or 'qanat'.And wading in the muddy winter
cheering up, graceful.He does not fear the evil of the eyes
And he is not afraid of the tongues (people gossip).And how naughty he's been, so that
People say he's indeed naughty.I am that boy
his world was here.I am from your water a drop
overflowed streams from high grounds.I am from your dust of an atom
blended and formed from miles.I am from your birds
a sparrow sang to your glory then became rich....

وطن النجوم ! أنا هنا * حدّق ، أتذكر من أنا ؟
ألمحت في الماضي البعيد * فتى غريرا أرعنا ؟
جذلان يمرح في حقو * لك كالنسيم مدندنا
المقتنى المملوك مل * عبه وغير المقتنى
يتسلق الأشجار لا * ضجرا يحس ولا ونى
ويعود بالأغصان يب * ريها سيوفا أو قنا
ويخوض في وحل الش * تاء مهلهلا متيمنا
لا يتقي شر العيو * ن ولا يخاف الألسنا
ولكم تشيطن كي يدو * ر القول عنه تشيطنا
أنا ذلك الولد الذي * دنياه كانت هاهنا
أنا من مياهك قطرة * فاضت جداول من سنا
أنا من ترابك ذرة * ماجت مواكب من منى
أنا من طيورك بلبل * غنى بمجدك فاغتنى
حمل الطلاقة والبشا * شة من ربوعك للدنى
كم عانقت روحي ربا * ك وصفقت في المنحنى
للبحر ينشره بنوك * حضارة وتمدنا
لليل فيك مصليا * للصبح فيك مؤذنا
للشمس تبطىء في ودا * ع ذراك كي لا تحزنا
للبدر في نيسان * يكحل بالضياء الأعينا
فيذوب في حدق المها * سحرا لطيفا لينا
للحقل يرتجل الروا * ئع زنبقا أو سوسنا
للعشب أثقله الندى * للغصن أثقله الجنى
عاش الجمال مشردا * في الأرض ينشد مسكنا
حتى انكشفت له فأ * لقى رحله وتوطنا
واستعرض الفن الجبال * فكنت أنت الأحسنا
